Our Leadership Team is comprised of the Superintendent of Schools, one Assistant Superintendent, four building Principals, the High School Assistant Principal and Athletic/ Activities Director, the Director of Instructional and Special Programs and a Technology Coordinator. The Leadership Team is responsible for the daily operations of the school district and for the successful implementation of all student programs and services.
It is our goal to provide exceptional service to every student, parent, and employee each and every day.
Ed Longfield – Superintendent
Mr. Longfield has served children for the last 26 years as a high school teacher/coach, middle school assistant principal, elementary principal, assistant superintendent, and, for the past 8 years, superintendent of Manitou Springs School District 14 . He grew up in Monument, Colorado, and is a third generation Colorado Springs native. “I am thrilled to be the Superintendent of Manitou Springs School District 14. The students and staff are simply amazing, and there is unbelievable support from the parents and community for this school system. Tim Miller, Assistant Superintendent
Mr. Miller came to the district in July 2006. Prior to that he was a financial manager for over six years with Edison Schools, working with charter schools in Colorado and Nevada. He is also retired from the U.S. Army, having served over 22 years in a variety of field artillery, aviation, and comptroller assignments in the U.S., Germany and the Middle East. He has a BS in business administration from The Citadel, an MS in systems management from the University of Southern California, and an MBA from Syracuse University. Email Tim Miller
Laurie Wood, Director of Learning Services 6 – 12/Director of Partners for Healthy Choices
Ms. Wood loves working with Manitou Springs School District 14 and the communities of Cascade, Chipita Park, Cedar Heights, Green Mountain Falls and Manitou Springs as the Director of Partners for Healthy Choices. She works extensively with the school and community in providing opportunities for many people to make choices that will positively affect their lives. Laurie has been an integral part of furthering community partnerships so that youth and families are empowered and connected. She has an extensive background in education from teaching preschoolers to lecturing in a college environment. She earned her undergraduate degree from Cornell University in Human Development and Family Studies and holds a MAT in Education from Colorado College. Laurie and her husband Steve have a son Jake, 2011 graduate of MSHS, 2015 graduate of Middlebury College with double major in physics and computer science. Email Laurie Wood
Cathrine (Cat) Olimb, Director of Technology
Cathrine Olimb has been working at Manitou Springs School District 14 since 2005. She has a Business/Marketing degree from Wang Business School in Oslo and a degree in Graphic Design. Cat have lived in Oslo, Stockholm, Tel Aviv and The Hague. While living in Israel she was the Director of The American Embassy School and in The Netherlands she worked as the MS Technology Coordinator at the American School of The Hague. Cat is excited to be living and working in Colorado Springs. Cat has two children both graduates from Manitou, Anders recently graduated from CSU with a Business Degree and Emilie graduated from Virginia Tech with a engineer degree. Glenn Hard, Principal, Manitou Springs High School
Mr. Hard has been working at Manitou Springs High School since 1995 and has served as Science Teacher, Director of Athletics and Activities, and now as the High School Principal. He received his B.A. in Biology and an M.A. in Education Leadership from Adams State College in Alamosa Colorado. He is a 1986 graduate of Manitou Springs High School and is a lifelong resident of Colorado.

John McGee, Athletic/Activity Director for District 14
Mr. McGee received his BS in Industrial Education at the University of Southern Colorado, Pueblo and then received his MA in Educational Leadership, at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. He taught many subjects including high school math, drafting and woodworking. John was the Principal at Holy Trinity in Colorado Springs and Dean of Students at Holy Family High School in Broomfield, CO. He has also coached other football teams and girls basketball. Ron Hamilton, Principal Manitou Springs Middle School
Mr. Hamilton is a 1989 graduate of Manitou Springs High School and attended MSMS and MSES. Since then, he has become an English and technology teacher (Palmer High School), outdoor educator and middle school teacher (Renaissance Academy), International Baccalaureate curriculum coordinator (North Middle School), IB school evaluator and teacher trainer (IBO), assistant principal (Pueblo D60), and high school principal (Falcon D49). Now, Mr. Hamilton is very excited to return to his hometown and use all of his experiences to learn and lead in his dream job – principal of Manitou Springs Middle School! Mr.Hamilton’s wife, Julie, is also a Manitou graduate and a second grade teacher at the Colorado Springs School. They have three amazing children who have all attended Manitou schools in the past. The Hamilton’s like to hike, camp, snowmobile and boat, and they are all big readers and writers. Mr. Hamilton believes that students excel when they work with high expectations and when they are empowered to make choices about what and how they learn. Russ Vogel, Principal, Manitou Springs Elementary School
Prior to his career In education, Mr. Vogel was a writer/editor/adventurer at The Worthington Globe, the University of Minnesota, International Business Information in Tokyo, Wiley Law Publications, UniStar Radio Networks, the U.S. Olympic Committee, and a salmon plant in Galena, AK. He began his education career at Remington Elementary in Colorado Springs, where he taught 4th grade and was vice principal. He holds a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri, a BA in Education from Adams State College, and a MA in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado. Mr. Vogel was The Gazette’s 1999 NIE Teacher of the Year. He became principal of Manitou Springs Elementary School in August 2004. Chris Briggs-Hale, Principal, Ute Pass Elementary School
Mr. Briggs-Hale is the Principal of Ute Pass Elementary School. He has experience as a classroom teacher, principal, and an educational consultant. He has served as a senior consultant at Mid-Continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL), an associate with the Marzano Research Laboratory, and a member of the National Board of Directors for Community of Caring in Washington, DC. He has conducted numerous presentations and workshops on school improvement/reform for community groups, administrators, and K-12 teachers in more than a dozen states. Chris received the 2004 Sally K. Lenhardt Professional Leadership Award from Lesley University, and was named 2004 Community of Caring National Administrator of the Year. Email Chris Briggs-Hale
